Good Pre-Weekend

What a way to begin a weekend. Finished work earlier than expected on Thursday due to a clerical error on my part. Came home, almost fell asleep in the sun in the back yard, and then went in to take a little nap. Woke up and talked (and laughed) with Jo for a while, and got even more excited about moving to England. Danika and I watched a heated, wildly-gesticulating "discussion" between a neighbor and police. The police eventually left - after giving her a ticket. We decided that, since we weren't going to have a "Cops"-esque show in our front yard, we'd go bowling.

Ended up being the only customers in a 30-lane alley, and bowling 88, 106, 112, including a turkey in the 9th and 10th frames in the second. With coupons we had, the total for shoes and three games each came to $6.50. Total. Danika got a call from a coworker as we were finishing up the third game, asking us to come out to the bar where his brother works. We did.

Met up with Damien (who bears a striking resemblance to Robert Downey Jr., no matter what Danika says) and his brother (who looks kinda like the non-blond guitarist from The Juliana Theory), who immediately asked us if we wanted to be interviewed for Russian TV. Um, o-kay. So we played dumb Americans for the camera:
Damien: "How many countries do you think Russia has invaded in the past 20 years?"
Me: [counting slowly to five on fingers] Well...there's Afganistan...and...Moscow...and...I'd say about five."

Back inside, I got my first taste of Big Buck Hunter Pro, one of Danika and Damien's favorite after-work passtimes. If it wasn't $7 a go (split four ways isn't too bad), it'd be mine too. Got 16 bucks my first time around and came in a decent fourth out of four. Not bad.

Came back home and decided that it was time to watch the first season of the Animaniacs, my favorite cartoon from the early Nineties. The writing is still brilliant. Fell asleep after 2.5 episodes, called it a night, and went to bed. Work at 7 the next morning = bah.

Friday was long. Got up (but not awake) at 5:30(ish). Down two people at work means that four people have to do the work of six: keeping a steady stream of java flowing to hundreds of zomboid business-people. Good times. The way I see it, I'm one of a number of legalized drug dealers that help keep the economy running.

At the end of the rush, one of the managers at the hotel next door stopped by to tell us about the new café they were opening, and offered to buy us all lunch. Cool. I had my first sashimi in five months. Managed to drag myself through the next five hours of work with the help of four shots of espresso, then caught the bus down to Richfield to meet up with the fam to go see Drew's play. My cousin Drew was playing Claudio in Scott Glasser's adaptation of "Much Ado About Nothing." Fabulous. Great performance on all parts, even "Leonata", who got sick backstage halfway through the performance but still managed to finish the show, including the swing-dance number at the end. Cool.

Got back to Richfield about a quarter to 11, walked to the bus stop to realize that the last bus had gone by a half-hour earlier. Walked to the OTHER bus stop, 25 minutes away, caught the bus home, and plunked down to bed around 1:30.

Now it's Saturday, and the weekend has officially begun. I got up promptly at 11, and have done little all day. Not planning much either. Tomorrow is Emily's confirmation, and the plan is to get down there with Matt around noon. Then work. Again. I'm beginning to hate this cycle.

Happy Cinco de Mayo.
